I have had the opportunity to work with a few different GPS receivers and have had the opportunity to test a few as well. These devices have covered a huge range in price and accuracy- from a Garmin Glo to a Trimble Geo XH with an external antenna.
I have been using an iPad for forestry field work for more than four years now – iPad, iPad 3 and now an iPad Air 2. For most of that time I have relied on the GPS unit built into the iPad for navigation and for the capture of spatial data.
Earlier this year I was introduced to some rugged phone and iPad cases made by Snow Lizard. The cases are ruggedized, waterproof, and best of all have a battery built into the case! Below I have described my experience with using their iPhone 4S case and an iPad 4th Generation case.
